History

Chaos Theories

The chantry known as Chaos Theories began all the way on the other side of the country in New York City. A mage approached then-Orphans Joshua, Renny, Bear, Georgio, Patrick, Jack and Jade to drive a very special car across the country to a chantry in California. Upon departure, the Orphans had a close encounter with the Technocracy before barely escaping the city.

Along the way, the travelers experienced many unusual adventures, including encountering an old-fashioned revival being run by Nephandi and saving reality as we know it from mischievous Cuckoo birds that had stolen Raven's pot. When the loosely organized cabal arrived in San Francisco, they found the house that they were supposed to deliver the car to had been cleaned out, most likely by the Technocracy. The cabal decided to make the house a permanent residence.

During the course of their stay at this house, enough paradox built up that the garden gnomes came to life. They are a permanent fixture to Chaos Theories. Two of the garden gnomes have been affectionately nicknamed 'Spartacus' and 'Tookie.' The chantry itself suffered a few losses. Patrick chose to leave on his own accord. Jack, in a fit of rage, chose to go off on his own into the night, and started a fight with Red Court vampires. Jack lost that fight, and would be turned into a Red Court vampire, to serve the will of Ramona Ellison, a recurring enemy of Chaos Theories.

About two years later, the cabal decided to relocate due to the fact that it was beginning to grow and running out of room in the old house. And so, with the help of Jamie, the cabal located a new house in San Francisco where it is currently located. Upon moving, Chaos Theories also took with them the paradox-created, animated garden gnomes.

Salvation

Eric Simmons, Danny Crawford, David Stahlman, and later, Llesenia Tunari, were tasked with protecting the werewolf kinfolk in and around Salvation, Idaho. They happened upon a young child, Caleb, who was being aggressively sought after by a powerful demon who wanted to turn him over to the Black Church. With Caleb in tow, they left Idaho for San Francisco in hopes of finding aid among the magi there. Bear approached the group and invited them back to meet the rest of his cabal, Chaos Theories.

Bamboo Pipe

Having suffered from an unexplained bout of amnesia, Chow Lu Wong began to continue his life and came to be a member of a prominent Chinese acrobatic troupe. On a tour of America, he found himself boarding a bus full of hunters bound for Salvation, Idaho at the behest of were-crows. He then immediately fled with the Salvation cabal and later met with Chaos Theories. Ulthana Mixtla was pushed into the umbra by her Dreamspeaker guardian and heard the unmistakable sounds of battle. Upon arriving at the site of the fray, she encountered both cabals and Chow. She and Chow decided to form an ad hoc cabal, naming it Bamboo Pipe.

Temporal Chaos

As the group came to cohabitate and work together, they still identified as three cabals: the original Chaos Theories, Salvation, and the Bamboo Pipe . One of their first major tasks as a singular group was to stop a string of Nephandic sacrifices, which revealed themselves to be a unified effort to resurrect the Generals of Hell. With one general, Azmodeus, successfully risen and released, the group also came upon a cryptic message inside an equally mystifying package. The clues inside led them to a California university where a mundane scientist was conducting an experiment that was causing ripples in the time stream. As a consequence of the experiment, the group was catapulted back to the 15th century. As the group tried to survive long enough to get back to their current time, they ended up changing the time line, one of the most notable results being the unprecedented rise of The DeMedici Family. The group realized the weight of their actions and their need to soldify into one cohesive chantry. They decided on the name Temporal Chaos. The chantry witnessed the creation of Wrinkle, and were tasked by him to go back and somehow undo the changes they had created. Upon their success, Wrinkle deposited them back in their current time. The chantry members reworked their infrastructure and began to make preparations to take on the demonic threat.

Descension

Because of the incident involving Raven's pot, a powerful demon was able to infiltrate the Technocracy's Ivory Tower. It began its work by slowly filtering corruption into the Technocracy's ranks until it had spread far enough to allow for Nephandi control. This coincided with the release of Hell's generals and before long, war was imminent. A corrupted deep umbral Technocratic capsule released a queyline bomb that utterly decimated Chicago, Il, and martial law was declared in the United States. The Traditions were beginning to rally themselves to prepare for the worst. Bear and Chow were about to answer the Dreamspeaker call to gather when Bear received a spirit message advising him not to travel through the Umbra. It was later revealed that the majority of the Dreamspeaker tradition had been destroyed while traveling by predators released into the Umbra. The Akashic Brotherhood, fearing the small battle troupes of Euthanatos that had been deploying to major cities, retreated to China where they were met by Nephandic Technocratic forces and nearly wiped out.

A strange group of people arrived in San Francisco and took up residence in an old hotel. When Temporal Chaos went to investigate, they found the group to be the Representatives for each Tradition. Combining forces, they shared information and strategies. Meanwhile, the Order of Hermes sent their highest mages to Los Angeles to try to contain Azmodeus themselves. The chantry traveled there with the help of Phillip and another mage, and Danny managed to use her relic, the first Colt .45, to shoot the General. As she did, his demonic energy filed the Hermetic ritual circle and transformed it into a hellmouth, releasing foul, winged creatures and a throng of demons. The gathered Hermetics, led by Porthos, could not stave off the attack and perished. The chantry members were pulled back by Phillip in time to survive.

Shortly thereafter, two Akashics corresponded onto the Golden Gate bridge. They eventually showed up at the Temporal Chaos chantry, accompanied by the Rimpoche himself. This sign of peace between the two Traditions gave a charge of hope to the chantry. Unfortunately, it was only temporary, as Reality soon began to crumble. Spirits came to be seen by Sleepers, as well as wraiths, ghouls, vampires, and demons. When Outsiders began to attack, portals to Balador were opened in major cities by Tradition mages and mass evacuations were executed. The chantry members fought back for as long as they could and suffered many casualties before being forced to retreat to Balador.

Little is known about any survivors on Earth, although rumors have been heard of small pockets of resistance groups who managed to survive.
