The Las Vegas Neutral District is an area of land encompassing the greater metropolitan area of Las Vegas, Nevada that provides a neutral ground between the Technocracy and the Tradition Mages.

History

Map of the Las Vegas Neutral District

Las Vegas has always been a city of Sin and Vice, two things the Technocracy has been tirelessly working to eliminate from the Masses in their goal to shepherd them and protect them. Throughout history, the Technocracy has attempted repeatedly to stamp out various elements of Vice, the most prominent and recent being the prohibition of alcohol which, in the United States, lasted only 13 years before they were forced by the Masses to remove it. Slowly they've come to realize that control of the Masses cannot be easily maintained without allowing them outlets of self-expression and self-destruction. Thus, they came to control the city of Las Vegas, and in doing so stumbled upon another revelation. Sin and Vice were not something they were adept at controlling or allowing.

As a consequence, Directors in and around Las Vegas began talking about ways to better implement the controlled vice they sought. Specifically, Agent William Smith, a Grey Suit with the New World Order, headed the project at implementing control measures. A proposal that had gone by the wayside with the start of World War II was rediscovered and re-instituted. It required work with the Traditions, and for some time, Smith failed to secure contact with them. Eventually, he was approached by Travis Sinclair, a member of the Cult of Ecstasy and a Tradition Mage to find out why the Union was seeking the Traditions for talks. They sat for some hours in a neutral location to discuss the beginnings of collaboration. Sinclair eventually left and rallied support on the Tradition side of things while Smith worked his end.

On April 18, 1943, contact was reestablished with Sinclair and several other Tradition Mages in the first ever attempt at a collaboration between the Technocracy and the Traditions since before the Age of Reason. Both sides designated representatives and legal staff to put together a ruling of precisely what this collaboration would entail. The culmination of this was the Treaty of Las Vegas, and it created the first ever Neutral District between the rivaling factions. Both sides fought hard for inclusions into the Treaty, and each had to sacrifice certain areas that they would have preferred see protected. Examples include Nellis Air Force Base on the Technocratic side and Desert Wetlands Park on the Traditions side, to name a couple.

The Treaty was finally signed on August 4, 1945, and placed into force the following year. Thus far, peace has been relatively maintained within the Neutral District, and there have been working relationships established between Mages and Technocrats. The District will exist until August 4th, 2046 unless the Treaty is renewed at that time.
