Eric Séamus McAllister (Born: September 9, 1980), is a low-level Verbena, and presently helps a local cabal of mages to carve out their niche in the increasingly constrained reality of the Technocratic paradigm.

Description

McAllister has sandy-blond hair, green eyes and keeps a lean frame with a light tan to his skin. He stands at 5'7" and hovers around 170lbs. McAllister's skin is marred with faint scars showing runes of varying kinds used to help power his magick, as well as several tattoos. Among these are the viking compass on the back of his left hand and a large nordic-tribal design adorning his back and shoulders.

Background

McAllister was born in Cork, Ireland to Daniel Morrigan McAllister and Caitlin Fiona Ochiern. He has one sibling, a younger sister, Arianna Aleyna McAllister. McAllister's family immigrated to the United states in 1983, and had attained citizenship in 1986. McAllister's sister was born during this period, and was thus a naturalized citizen of the United states from birth, making her the first First Generation member of this family.

The family eventually settled down in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania and found a small niche of Irish community living there. Being with others from their native country helped keep the family firmly rooted in Irish culture and folklore. As McAllister grew up, he was able to learn and maintain Gaelic as a second fluency due to the others around him. McAllister's initial interests were much the same as any other average child. As he grew, he took interest in his families culture and history much more than the average person. He would spend much of his free time invested in reading Irish folklore, learning about runes and reading about the mystical world that had long since passed.

During his rune studies, his interests branched and began including Norse mythology and information as well. By the time he was midway through high school, McAllister had become proficient with the Elder Futhark, a runic language, and had developed some rudimentary fortune telling and rune reading abilities. At first, he used these as fun gimmicks for his friends and faimly, but as his accuracy grew, so did those who wanted readings. Soon he was doing them for strangers as well.

McAllister tended to frequent a local bookstore known as Fantasy and Fiction Books, which was run by a local Verbena Mage named Lilith Marilyn Paterson. McAllister tended to call her by her more familiar Lilly, and the two had a friendly acquaintance. She noted early McAllister's potential, and guided his studies into the metaphysics and folklore without prodding too hard. This gentle guidance proved fruitful, and one day McAllister found himself pulling runes from his bag for no discernible reason. He spread the runes and suddenly his magickal senses went into full swing. He was assaulted by varied images of life, other places, thoughts and a myriad of other things. When he finally returned to reality, the runes had already been replaced into his bag, and he was leaning against the nearby wall.

Soon after, Paterson realized that McAllister had awakened, and began working in magickal teachings. Eventually becoming his mentor, she taught McAllister all she could about the basics of working magick and what it meant to be a Mage. She took time to instill in him the protocols and guidelines for being a Mage, and was careful to warn him about overuse of his abilities due to the attention it can bring.

After high school, McAllister caught a case of wanderlust and with his parents' blessing, took to traveling the country. Eventually, he ended up in Boston, MA, where he still resides. He realizes there is much he must do at this location and has yet to move on from here.

Paradigm

McAllister uses runes and bodily fluids to focus and power his magicks. Additionally, he uses unengraved stones, meditations, chanting and fire to help support his arts. The runestones he primarily uses are engraved pieces of hematite to enhance the balance and energy in the castings he uses. He does however possess numerous sets of runestones, each with specific focuses in their uses.

Specific to each of his spheres, McAllister uses the following foci or foci combinations:

  • Correspondence: Runes laid out in specific patterns. Specific runes: Gateway (Thurisa), Journey (Raido), Movement (Ehwaz), Breakthrough (Dagaz), Defense (Eihwaz)
  • Entropy: Odin-rune draw (Single rune drawn from a bag). Specific Rune: Blank (Odin)
  • Forces: Runes in specific order and/or flame for larger effects (fire being the uncorruptable element so perfect for feeding effects). Specific runes: Flow (Laguz), Breakthrough (Dagaz), Signals (Ansuz), Opening (Kano), Warrior (Teiwaz), Standstill (Isa)
  • Life: Runes, blood/sweat/tears/saliva. Specific runes: Warrior (Teiwaz), Growth (Berkana), Strength (Uruz), The Self (Mannaz), Wholeness (Sowelu)
  • Mind: Meditation and/or runes. Specific runes: Protection (Algiz), Signals (Ansuz), Joy (Wunjo)
  • Matter: Runes of transformation and insight. Specific runes: Breakthrough (Dagaz), Gateway (Thurisa), Possessions (Fehu), Intiation (Perth), Harvest (Jera)
  • Prime: Fire (power) and runes. Specific runes: Flow (Laguz), Gateway (Thurisa), Fertility (Inguz), Opening (Kano)
  • Spirit: Rune layouts and chanting. Specific runes: Gateway (Thurisa), Partnership (Gebo), Opening (Kano), Movement (Ehwaz)
  • Time: Runes in a 3 or 5 rune layout. Specific runes drawn help detail what future he sees.

Favorite Rotes

  • See beyond sight (Correspondence ••) Correspondence point

The runes will grant vision beyond what you can normally see? Can't you read them? Here, then, look into this bowl of water while I drop in the runes...

  • Collecting the heat (Forces ••) Altering temperature for an area

By focusing on this flame, all heat can be drawn there, much as a moth would be. Sometimes the runes help to focus things, but usually just having a lighter and some quiet time are enough.

  • Asking fate (Entropy •) Looking for strands of entropy/fate

Whenever a decision needs to be made, and your mind can't seem to find a way, a single rune can often help decide for you. Look, Perth reversed. We go left.

  • Imbue the mundane (Prime ••) Prime charge

By carving these runes on this staff, it'll be able to affect even spirits and other things. Werewolves? Sure, if they really exist. I don't see why it wouldn't hurt them too.

  • Mending the wounds (Life •••) Heal another

Quit your bellyaching. The blood I'm using will help bring you whole. Yes, it's necessary. No, I'm not calling a doctor. Now quiet.

  • Shielding (Correspondence ••) Warding

You see these runes here? And there? They mark where my protection extends to. Don't step beyond them, and we're fine for now. Don't worry, no one can find us here.

  • Strength through blood and fire (Life •••, Forces ••, Prime ••) Better body and improved damage

Carving specific runes into the forearms grants increased strength and agility, while searing those runes with fire to stop the bleeding and infuse the body grants increased damage and the ability to harm supernaturals.

  • Leave your mark (Prime ••) Prime Tag

Best done by tracing a rune onto the skin of a willing target. For an unwilling or unknowing target, either writing their name and drawing a rune across it to link them or dropping a runestone onto their person ends up being the best methods to keep them marked.
