During the Inquisition of the 15th century, many vampires were found and snuffed out. In order to survive, seven of the thirteen original clans that descended from the Antediluvians began The Masquerade in an attempt to preserve vampire society. Together, these Kindred are called the Camarilla. They strive to uphold The Masquerade even to this day. It has not only proved an effective way to stay under the radar and therefore ensure their survival, but it has also brought balance to the predator/prey scenario. The Camarilla view the Sabbat as their prime enemies, with the Independents a close second.
